Clinical Need

  • In the U.S. there are ~125,000 hemodialysis patients with ePTFE grafts that require an average of 1.6 interventions per graft per year (~200,000 interventions per year) to maintain the functionality of the graft and the ability to connect the patient to the hemodialysis machine.

  • The most common cause of graft dysfunction is progressive obstruction (stenosis) and eventual thrombosis of the venous anastomosis – the downstream connection between the ePTFE graft and patient’s native vein.

  • When such problems occur, costly management is urgently needed to repair or replace the ePTFE graft and return the patient to life-sustaining hemodialysis treatments.
